Admissions to Purley Nursery School

Children are admitted into Purley Nursery School the term after their third birthday (if places are available). As a maintained nursery school, we follow Croydon Local Authority guidance on admissions criteria (www.croydon.gov.uk). If we are over-subscribed, children will be admitted in accordance with the following criteria:

1. Your child may be given priority on special medical, social or educational grounds. These applications will not normally be considered as a priority unless accompanied by a supporting statement from a Doctor, Social Worker, Health Visitor or other appropriate education service. You will need to give particulars of a professional who can be contacted.

2. Finally, decisions will be taken on the basis of geographical measurements.

3. The distance from the child's home to the nursery/school based upon the shortest reasonable walking route

Applications are accepted at any time after the child's second birthday.  Application Forms are available at the School. Places are allocated during March/April for admission in the Autumn term after the child's third birthday and November/December for the Spring Intake.

Children are admitted gradually. This helps you and your child to get to know us and eases the transition from home to school. Parents and carers are asked to stay and support their child in the early days to provide the security their child needs. Children who have attended other nursery provision will also still need time and a familiar adult to help them gain confidence in a different setting with unfamiliar adults.

To check whether your two year old is entitled to 15 or 30 hours of free nursery education, please use the following link:  https://beststartinlife.gov.uk/eligibility.checker/view-all-schemes

A small number of places for non-funded two year olds may be available to parents who are able to pay the fee charge however priority is given to children in receipt of the Government two year funding.

School provision

Nursery Education Places are 15 hours per week in all childcare settings who are registered with Ofsted and implementing the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). This is to support working families to have greater flexibility in their childcare arrangements, together with valuing the importance of Early Years Education and Care for all young children.

Since September 2017 we have been offering the new Government funded 30 hours provision for those parents who are eligible.

In this School we strongly support establishing consistent and clear routines for children to ensure they receive the necessary support to feel safe and secure and therefore thrive and develop the best they can.

We will be emphasising with parents/carers the importance of children attending every day of the week whenever possible, rather than on 2, 3 or 4 days only, so that planning to meet their care and learning needs can be as beneficial and successful as possible.

Once children have been offered a place, then regular, punctual attendance is essential if they are to establish good relationships with their peers and adults.

Poor attendance and lateness make it difficult for children to establish themselves within the group and also fragments their experiences, leading to slower progress and under-achievement.

If your child has to be absent for any reason, please telephone us to let us know. Reasons for absence need to be recorded in the School Register.

Please report absences immediately to the office on 0208 660 5639 or via email at office@purley.croydon.sch.uk
